Science Corner: Nature Prints

May 2, 2012 by Paige Hudson

Nature Prints | Homeschool Science Corner

Spring is a beautiful time of year, there are flowers blooming all around us and leaves popping out left and right.  The only bad thing about this is that spring doesn’t last forever.  The flowers will fade, the leaves will fall. Many people collect and press a piece of spring in a journal, but I want to share with you another method of preserving the leaves and flowers that are blooming all … [Read more...]

The other half of my brain…

April 25, 2012 by Paige Hudson

I have the best husband in the world for me! He's my rock, my partner in business and in life, my best friend and so much more. Over the years, we have truly grown to function as one. The only problem I have found with this is that when he's gone, half of my brain has left with him. You see, I have a lot on my plate between writing for Elemental Science, homeschooling my daughter, having … [Read more...]

Science Corner: Observations and Results

April 18, 2012 by Paige Hudson

Awhile back I share about the scientific method and how it's not as complicated as it seems.  Step 5 of the scientific method says to "Record & Analyze any Observations and Results". In today's Science Corner, I thought I would take some time to explain the difference between observations and results. What are Observations? Observations are a record of the things you see happening in your … [Read more...]

US State Study

April 10, 2012 by Paige Hudson

There is a fair amount out there to use when studying the US States, but I wanted something simple and easy to do, so I created my own US State Study for us to use alongside of our Story of the Worlds studies.  I thought I'd share what we did with you, in case someone else is looking for the very same thing :). How we've done it: All along we have studied one state each day.  In the … [Read more...]

Science Corner: In Search of Animal Scat

April 4, 2012 by Paige Hudson

Animals are present in many of the places you go, but you seldom see them because they are afraid of people.  However, there are many signs of the presence of animals in a habitat. You may see tufts of hair on a fence post or tree branch.  You may see crushed grass or leaves from where the animals have bedded down for the night.  And, if your really lucky, you might even see some scat! Scat … [Read more...]

What is the Scientific Method?

March 8, 2012 by Paige Hudson

So what is the scientific method? Well in a nutshell, the scientific method trains the brain to examine and observe before making a statement of fact.   It is the main method scientists use when asking and answering questions.  And using the scientific method will teach your students to look at all the evidence before making a factual statement. In today's science corner, I wanted to explain … [Read more...]

Welcome to the Elemental Blogging Laboratory

profile picWelcome to the Elemental Blogging Laboratory, a.k.a. the Eb Lab. Here at the lab, I have the pleasure of sharing with you all my passion for mixing up solutions for homeschool science! My name is Paige Hudson. I am a homeschooling mom and science curriculum writer for Elemental Science.

Why do I call this blog the "Eb Lab"? It is because I am scientist at heart and by profession, so it pretty much spills into everything I do. I love to share tips and tools with fellow educators as they seek to share science with their students!

That is what this blog is all about. One homeschooler to another, sharing her area of expertise, seeking to support you as you teach your students about the wonders of science.

So, grab your lab coat, notebook, and goggles...well maybe not the goggles because let's face it nobody looks good in those...and you probably don't have a lab coat lying around your house either...

So, grab a cup of coffee and notebook, and head on in to the Eb Lab to gather tools for homeschool science, tips for homeschooling, and the latest Elemental Science news!
