Homeschool Science Corner: The Importance of Units of Measurement

May 14, 2013 by Paige Hudson

Units of Measurement

I am a bit of a stickler on units of measurement thanks to my high school chemistry teacher. She always told us that a number in chemistry meant nothing without its units, which is so true. After all, if I say that I need 2 of sugar for a recipe, do you know if I mean 2 tablespoons, 2 grams, 2 cups or 2 kilos? That's why from the very first time I introduce measurements to my students I always … [Read more...]

Research Report or Research Paper?

May 7, 2013 by Paige Hudson

The term research report and research paper are often used interchangeably. Although both of these assignments require research, they do differ in several ways. In a nutshell, the student writing a research report does some research and churns out facts, while the student writing the research paper analyzes a topic and forms an opinion. What is a Research Report? A research report is basically … [Read more...]

April 30, 2013 by Paige Hudson

Spring is a exceptional time to take a closer look at the structure of a flower. One of the best was to do this is through a flower dissection, but how does one perform such a dissection? Step by Step … [Read more...]

The tale of the two Story of the World series

April 9, 2013 by Paige Hudson

I could go on for days about how wonderful the Story of the World series is by Dr. Susan Wise Bauer. I might have even shed a tear or two as we finished the reading through books last year. This history series is engaging and well-written, plus it lends itself easily towards notebooking, which we love around here. While using the series, we learned so much about history and enjoyed making … [Read more...]

5 More Tips to Help You Get it All Done

March 25, 2013 by Paige Hudson

Awhile back I wrote a post with 5 tips for how we get it all done, but since then my little guy has arrived fully into toddler land. He's decided not to take a nap anymore, which was my work time, and teaching him about rest time is not going as well as I had planned.  Plus, my daughter is more active in dance this year, which takes up extra time and requires that we are more diligent about … [Read more...]

Welcome to the Elemental Blogging Laboratory

profile picWelcome to the Elemental Blogging Laboratory, a.k.a. the Eb Lab. Here at the lab, I have the pleasure of sharing with you all my passion for mixing up solutions for homeschool science! My name is Paige Hudson. I am a homeschooling mom and science curriculum writer for Elemental Science.

Why do I call this blog the "Eb Lab"? It is because I am scientist at heart and by profession, so it pretty much spills into everything I do. I love to share tips and tools with fellow educators as they seek to share science with their students!

That is what this blog is all about. One homeschooler to another, sharing her area of expertise, seeking to support you as you teach your students about the wonders of science.

So, grab your lab coat, notebook, and goggles...well maybe not the goggles because let's face it nobody looks good in those...and you probably don't have a lab coat lying around your house either...

So, grab a cup of coffee and notebook, and head on in to the Eb Lab to gather tools for homeschool science, tips for homeschooling, and the latest Elemental Science news!
